Serafina, Downtown Dubai

A couple of friends and I started our long weekend with dining at Serafina, Souk Al Bahar in Downtown Dubai. If you’re going during December – April season, definitely get a reservation outdoor as the seating is right next to the Dancing Fountain overlooking the Burj Khalifa. Ambiance is really nice with the low lighting inside and outside as well. It is usually packed on weekends so I would strongly suggest making a reservation beforehand.

Serafina is originally from the US and opened in Dubai only a few years ago. They focus on Italian cuisine but sadly, the menu is quite limited of choices. I believe they have more options for vegetarians as compared to non-veg but if you’re like me and prefer your pizza/pasta without meat, then you won’t have an issue selecting what to eat 😉 The prices are comparatively high but the portion size is surprisingly good enough to fill your tummy (unlike most fine dining places!). As for the service, I found it great! They were quick, courteous and for our table of eight, we had two servers.

Here is what we ate:

The serving portion of all the appetizers was good (no one had to nibble hehe). Even though Gamberoni was part of the main course section, we ordered it as an appetizer and man was it good!! Shrimps were cooked perfectly and the sauce on top was heavenly – must try it if you’re okay with seafood. Hero dish for the night however was definitely the ‘Devil’ Cornish Hen. It was juicy, tasted like I was actually eating chicken (desi chicken reference hehe) and it went so well with the greens served (spinach leaves, rocket and arugula leaves). Eight of us on the table agreed that it was the best thing we ate all night. Priced at AED 145, it is certainly steep for your pocket but serving can be shared between two people easily (unless sharing is not your thing).

Tiramisu was delicious!!! Not too sweet and cake was extremely moist. I do not usually pick this for dessert but some of my friends ordered it and it actually got over in less than 30 seconds (no exaggeration!!). The Dark Chocolate Mousse was just okay and could have been better. I did not like the wafers on top –  it reminded me of morning cereal.

If you are only looking to grab a couple of drinks, then they have a huge menu selection of alcohol (liquor, beer, wine etc) here as well.

Frankly speaking, Serafina is the kind of place I would take friends visiting from outside U.A.E mostly for the views of the dancing fountain and the Burj Khalifa. Food would be secondary for me here. I would like to recommend it – but maybe not *confused*
